Wilbur starratt a" real character" that's the short version. It was a Starrett family reunions where I first met Wil and the famous seafood chowder. He was in his element helping to organize that sort of thing especially if music was involved. As a father-in-law he bent over backwards to accommodate me. There was always a room ready and food provided by he and Charlotte whether that be in Arizona or Nova Scotia. His story telling and recall was keen due to his is many life experiences. We shared a love for sports, hard work, common sense and getting things done. And, we especially couldn't wait to poke fun at each other, which included a constant banter about how much his daughter - my wife Pam cost us in food over the years, all 110 lb of her. There was always going to be a bill sent from either the East or the West. God I'm going to miss that. As for a friend, I don't think you could find a better one - he would give you the shirt off his back if you treated him fairly. If asked, you could get solid helpful advice and when Wil didn't know the answer he knew someone that did. So many good long time friends young and old - he was a bridge from the past to the present, it travelled both ways and without a toll. Will you were a stubborn old codger, rough around the edges yet endearing and one of the most interesting people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing - and I love you because of it. Thanks for making my life better!

Wilbur was a great friend of my dad Merle Carey. He always shared stories of some of the adventures they had. They drove to New York to watch a World Series game in 1959 against the Dodgers with Sandy Koufax pitching and Mikey Mantle was one of the Yankees stars. He also fondly remembers a trip to Boston they took together as well. They were hockey teammates on the Wolfville Falcons and played baseball for the Hantsport Shamrocks and their 1961 Maritime Championship was a special one for them. In recent years in the summer Phil Jordan would pick up dad and they would head to get Wilbur and go for a day trip. Dad laughed as he said Wilbur and Phil always fought over the bill and dad said he just stayed out of it and let them decide who would pay for his meal. Our sympathy to Charlotte and our thoughts are with his children and other family as well.

My condolences to all the Starratt family and especially Wilbur's children....I remember as a young kid our family visits to Avonport to Wilbur's and the four of us boys would play with Bernard and Raymond's toy trucks. There were many Boxing Day Family Christmas gatherings at Aunt Leonore's with lots of playing music, singing with Wilbur in the lead, his mother on the piano and always tons of food....
I never got to see Wilbur very often after moving away from Hantsport but anytime we did meet I could always say this..."Wilbur you never seem to age or change".... he would just laugh....last time I saw him was at Bernard and Marilyn's during his wheeling and dealing days. Sorry to hear of his passing...

To the Family: Many memories of Wilbur when he lived across from us in Avonport. A hard working man with strong ideas. He was so kind to us to plow our driveway in the winter when Billy was away working. We haven't paid him yet!!!! He and Billy played hockey with the Wolfville Falcons, the best team in the Valley. In fact. Billy bought a second hand pair of skates from Wilbur and they were just put in the garbage two years ago. One lady who saw them when we were skating, said she would like to have them to tole paint and another man took a picture of them - thinking they were just so unique. After all, they were only 60 years old with lots of markings on them. The man who sharpened them said there is no blade left on them to sharpen. However, we always thought of Wilbur when he put them on. Condolences to all the family and blessings to you, Charlotte as you journey without your partner. xoxoxox Gwen & Bill Sweet
