Obituary of Raymond Armstrong

Raymond McLeod Armstrong, age 75, of Dartmouth, passed away at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre in Eastern Passage on July 12, 2015. Born in Halifax on October 20, 1939 and raised in River Hebert and Joggins, NS, he was a son of the late Stanley Armstrong and Kathleen Wadman Porter. Until his early retirement, Ray was a well-liked and respected government employee with CFB Halifax. His loves and passions were hockey (Montreal Canadiens), Tim Horton's coffee, old country music, western movies, cats and spending time on his computer. Ray was a kind and gentle soul who suffered the hardships and limitations of his physical disabilities with an indomitable spirit and grace. He is survived by nieces Debra and Lindsay Armstrong and Kathy McInnis; nephews Neil and Todd Armstrong; grandnieces Jamie McInnis and Callie Armstrong; grandnephew Jack Mellan; aunt Joan Armstrong; sister-in law Barb Armstrong and many cousins. He was predeceased by stepfather Jack Porter, and brothers Stanley and Whitman Armstrong. Special thanks to staff and friends at Oceanview Centre for their years of loving care and kindness to Ray and to volunteer palliative care workers for keeping vigil with him in his final hours. Cremation has taken place, with a committal service to be held on Saturday, July 18 at 2pm in the Kempt Shore Cemetery, Kempt Shore, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating.
