Sue, I can’t tell you how sad I feel. It has been so long since I have seen you, Cindy’s wedding. I remember your wedding, how much I would miss you but so happy for you and Gerald. I remember the flounder he brought in, still my favorite fish, and how surprised we were that he could knit! He will always be by your side, just look for the signs.

Dear Sue and family,
We want to send our sincere condolences to you all.
I was glad to have one last "dance" with Gerald at Haliburton Place recently . Even though he was in his wheelchair, he was enjoying the music, and swinging his arms as though he were on a dance floor. It was very heartwarming to see how powerful music can be and how much joy it was bringing him.
Wishing you all peace and comfort in the days ahead.
Take care , Gina and Kevin ❤️

Oh Sue, my heart and hugs are with you. With you all. So many funny kid moments come to mind. But none play as strongly as You, Gerald & the kids coming to Sackville to visit with Richard & Elmina. To me, you brought the most important with you.........a Grammie and Scotties Chips! It was a time of great laughter and smiles for all.
In case I never said it, or you couldn't understand my mumbles........ Thank you Gerald & Sue for the chippies...and the kindness shown to a little child..
Sue may all your memories make you smile. And may any tears be from the laughter of the stories and song that are being shared
Much love

In remembering Gerald, I think back to the time when we were all just young. The time he hitched up the old horse to the buggy and we took it over the road, the times when we were kids he took us down to the pasture to help bring up the cows, helping to feed them and then trying to learn to milk and the many times jumping in the hay in the barn. There were lots of farm memories but the one I can remember the most is him teaching me to do the hop polka! He loved his country/ old time music and would bring the old record player out into the yard, place it on the chopping block and play those old records! It was there he taught me the dance. Well we hopped around that yard and the free-range chickens scattered in all directions but we never stepped in chicken poo!. Then in his teens, he met Sue!! I guess it was a case of "love at first sight" as from then on, he worked hard, saved his money and made plans to go to the USA, marry Sue and bring her to Nova Scotia to live. And in August of 1967, he did just that! They had a wonderful , loving, life together raising their children. They are a very close Family and their love for one another will get them through this trying time. Rest in Peace, Gerald, you will missed but remembered by many. Love and hugs to the Family, Dona Lee.

Every year my dad (Clinton Barkhouse) would take us to Nova Scotia to visit my grandma & Uncle Gerald. Uncle Gerald was so much fun. He taught me how to milk a cow & drive the tractor. When he was showing me how to park it I hit the house! OPS!! Our visit always landed on my birthday & it was a precious time to spend it with them. Uncle Gerald will be truly missed. Love from Larry & Susie, Texas, U.S.A.

Gerald used to sit on a paddle with a little wood man on a stick that he would make dance to music by tapping the paddle. This is my fond memory when we use to visit with our family.
