Obituary of Sadie Densmore
Please share a memory of Sadie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Densmore, Sadie Jane – 88 of Debert, formerly of Noel, passed away on March 13, 2024, in Debert Court Nursing Home. Born in Digby on May 19, 1935, Sadie was the daughter of the late Ronald and Bertha (Manzer) Pierce.
Sadie was born and raised in Digby where she met the love of her life Claude during his travels from East Noel to work in a sawmill in Digby. The two would go on to get married and have their first child, Tim. They soon moved to East Noel, bought a farm on the Point Rd., and turned it into a Dairy Farm where they worked long hours; Claude in the barn and fields, Sadie in the house caring for the children and cooking meals, including for the help hired until their sons were big enough to pitch in.
Shortly after the birth of her youngest child Blair, Sadie contracted Tuberculosis and was hospitalized for 11 months while her sister-in-law, Doreen looked after Blair. After recovery, Sadie worked in the farm’s strawberry fields during the summers looking after the pickers and berries. She even found time to join the Women's Institute, where she was active for several years.
As her family grew up, Sadie embraced the role of grandmother. “Gram Sadie” was full of kisses, hugs, laughter and fun. She delighted in spending time with family, especially her grandkids. She was talented at crochet and for years kept her family outfitted in hand-knit socks.
After the passing of her husband, Sadie fulfilled a promise to her sister Virginia and moved back to Digby so the sisters could live together. This also put her near to her many nieces and nephews which she enjoyed very much.
As dementia started taking its toll, Sadie decided to return to East Noel to be with her immediate family, later moving to Debert Court where she was well loved and cared for until her passing. The family would like to thank Debert Court’s Management and Staff for the excellent care they provided!
Sadie is survived by sons Tim & Larry; Grandchildren Julie, Chris, Mitch, Racheal, Shaun, Lisa, Jeremy; 12 cherished great-grandchildren; 2 great-greatgrandchildren.
Besides her parents, Sadie is predeceased by sons: Terry Eugene and Blair David; husband Claude Foster; grandson Matthew Pierce; siblings, Leslie Pierce, Viola Lombard, Phyllis Gavel, Virginia O’Neill.
