Obituary of Gary Brown
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Brown, Gary Wayne - 78 of Cheverie, passed away peacefully at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, NS on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born November 6, 1945, in the Homestead to the late Harry and Greta (McLellan) Brown, and lived to his final day, in Cheverie.
Gary was an active sportsman with many awards through his earlier years, an avid sports fan and armchair commentator in his later years, mostly for the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs! He played softball for several teams including the Shore Maroons, Cheverie Cardinals, Hantsport, and Walton Old Timers. He was a respected hockey coach of the Selwood Aces, as well as the Shore team in the Midland League, providing guidance and frequently a drive to anyone who needed it. Gary pulled tug-of-war over the years and was a successful bowler in a mixed league. He was a proud hockey Dad to Trevor, spending many weekends travelling all over Nova Scotia.
Gary worked as a blaster and pipe layer most of his career with Harbour Construction and proudly conducted a lifetime job of helping others.
Gary loved his family fiercely. He could frequently be found down on the floor playing with the little ones and cradling the babies in his big loving hands. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; their visits would always brighten his day! He also appreciated all the phone calls and visits from friends and family.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby (Worr) Brown, daughter Lisa (Dugger) Whitehead, and son Trevor Brown; granddaughters Kylie (Nick) Weatherbee, Nichole Whitehead (Ken Lantz), Deanna Whitehead (Anthony Miner), Breanna Turner (Jake Hughes); great-grandchildren Brooklynn, Brandon and Bryce Weatherbee, Jaxon, Henry and Wyatt Whitehead, and Raelynn Miner; sisters Beatrice Farris, Jean (Bob) Chambers, and brother Allen (Barb) Brown, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Besides his parents, Gary is predeceased by sisters Stella Lake, Madeline Pederson, Pearl Morris, Phyllis Lake, Shirley Smith and brothers Donald, James and Clyde Brown.
