HARVIE, Rosina “Mary” (Higney)- 90, of Riverside, Hants County passed away peacefully Saturday, November 28th, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Dartmouth on October 16, 1930, she was a daughter of the late John James "Jim" and Kathleen (Simpson) Higney. She is survived by daughters Linda, Joanne (Mike), Kathleen (Denis) and sons, Bob, Gord (Pat), Willie (Millie); Grandchildren, Danielle, Doug, Jon, Lurinda, Amanda, Jord, Joe, Sarah, Ed, Crystal, Rhonda, Buddy, Dawn, John, Nick, Mary; 23 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; special brother, Gerry; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; son, Lawrence; grandson, Tyler; one sister and nine brothers. Mary often shared her many fond memories of growing up in Dartmouth, including canoeing and swimming in Lake Banook and going to dances. As a girl she worked as caddy master at Brightwood Golf Course and later worked at Moirs, wrapping chocolates by hand. At 23 she married the love of her life, Gordon, and moved to Riverside, Hants County. A devoted wife and loving mother, she also worked seasonally at various packing plants in the Annapolis Valley. Mary loved her flower garden and stocking her shelves with homemade preserves. She appreciated lively conversation and a good laugh. She was proud of her heritage and often shared sayings, stories and songs passed down from her parents who immigrated to Nova Scotia from Ireland and Scotland. She enjoyed a game of cards, reading, and watching her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. Most important of all to Mary was her family, immediate and extended. She loved nothing more than preparing a delicious meal and having a house full of loved ones to share it with. She found particular joy in spending time with children and always made them feel special. Mary was kind, strong and always thought of others first. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed. We wish to extend our gratitude to the staff of Northwood Homecare who provided excellent care.
