Betten; Winnifred Evelyn (1926-2020) Formerly of Gypsum Mines, passed away at Ivy Meadows in Beaver Bank on October 2, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Cochrane) Church. She is survived by daughter Gail (Bill), sons Garth (Florence) and Garwin (Carol), her grandchildren Michelle (John), Kelly (Colin), Geoffrey, Taliesin, Dodd (Andrea) and her great grandchildren William, Waverly, Gemma and Lily. Winnie is predeceased by husband William, son Laurie, brothers Earle, George (Minnie) and Roy, and sister Helen. As a capable independent working Mom she was a role model for her children giving them a strong work ethic, compassion and love of family. After her retirement as manager of the Tourist Bureau in Truro, she enjoyed gardening, baking (world’s best date squares), crossword puzzles, fiercely competitive games of Scrabble and cooking big family dinners. She will be fondly remembered for her wicked sense of humour and selfless devotion to those around her. A special thank you goes out to the amazing staff of Ivy Meadows in Beaver Bank for their professionalism, love and devotion. At Winnie’s request, there will be no visitation or service. A private family burial will be held in the St. Croix Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Winnie can be made to the St. Croix Cemetery Fund.
