Obituary of Betty Wheaton
Wheaton, Betty (Elizabeth) Doreen, 78 of Pembroke
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Mom's passing on Monday August 12, 2019.
Mom passed peacefully at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by loving family, colorful conversation (her favorite kind!), and lots of laughter. She's finally back in Dad's arms again, and we know that her beautiful smile is lighting up Heaven.
Born March 27th, 1941 in Windsor, Betty grew up in Lower Vaughan raised by her grandparents Harvey and Clara Armstrong.
Mom had many different layers, rather like an onion. She was sweet, nurturing, loving, a little spicy, a little salty and on occasion, a little sour... She was a very modest person and appreciated the little things life had to offer. She loved sitting around with friends and family, partaking in rousing conversation, the occasional off-color joke and just talking about life in general. Mom loved tapping her toes to good fiddle music, as well as singing along to her favorites.
She tried to teach patience to her children but knew in some cases that it was like trying to fight the tide. It's probably a good thing that she was well endowed with that trait because a couple of us did like to challenge her.
Mom had so many good friends and she always had time to stop for a chat in the middle of Sobeys on grocery day.
So many things about her will go unmatched by anyone else, ever. Her Christmas turkey would make even the most accomplished chefs green with envy. Her homemade bread was incomparable. Her hand sewn bedspreads will remain in the family for generations to come, admired by anyone lucky enough to see one. We lost a rare treasure today, the likes of which we will never see again. We'll miss you Mom, but our hearts are at peace knowing that you and Dad are together again.
She is survived by her children Tom, Sandra, Sherry (Kim) and Debbie; grandchildren Savannah, Nathan, Jacob, Shaelyn and Meredith; great grandchildren Isaac, Evalynn, Ariel and Noah.
Betty is predeceased by her loving husband Ronald and a son in infancy.
Cremation has taken place, with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 17th, 2pm at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home in Summerville, Rev Alex Mosher officiating. A private family burial will take place at the Pembroke Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Walton Fire Hall. Donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
A special thank you to the staff of the Hants Community Hospital, as well as Mom’s personal care workers. Namely, Sandra Burgess, Cindy Young, Michelle Wile, Michelle Hartt, and Sandra Sanford
