Obituary of Leora Vivian Wilcox

WILCOX – Leora Vivian (Burgess), age 92, of Falmouth, formerly of Walton, passed away on May 11, 2018 at the Windsor Elms, Falmouth. Born in Walton on April 7, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Dora (Brown) Burgess. Leora married Percy Wilcox, and together they raised three children, Doreen, Allan, and Karen. She was a member of Grace United Church and U.C.W., and served as an Elder. She was also a member of the Walton Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Handy Helpers Group. Mum sold Avon for over 30 years and always enjoyed it; she especially liked seeing the children and treating them to suckers from her Avon bag. She loved Walton, her church, flowers, and in her younger years, walking to the beach and visiting the lighthouse. She will be greatly missed by her son Allan (Barbara Wood) Wilcox and daughter Karen (David) Auby; eight grandchildren, Craig (Jackie) Sexton, Wayne (Tracey) Sexton, Brian (Katrina) Sexton, Kirk (Cathy) Wilcox, Jana (Keith) Amerault, Jillian (Shawn) MacAulay, Shannon Auby (Tom Hodder), and Dana (Tammy) Auby; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Leora was predeceased by her husband, Percy; daughter, Doreen (Wilcox) Sexton, and Doreen’s twin sister in infancy; brothers Avard and Gilbert Burgess, and sister Ella (Burgess) Wheaton. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request; a memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 2pm at Grace United Church, Walton, Rev. Judith Perry officiating. Interment at Walton Church Cemetery, with a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Church c/o Kathy Grace, Walton, NS B0N 2R0.
