Obituary of Earl Allister Coolen
COOLEN - Earl Allister, age 70, of Upper Kennetcook. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Daddy, Papa, brother, brother-in-law, and friend on June 24 2017 with his youngest daughters by his side at the Palliative Care Unit in the Colchester East Hants Health Center in Truro with lung cancer. Born on April 24, 1947 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late Cecil Coolen and Violet (Harnish) Coolen. Earl was a homebody when he wasn’t working and he could often been found tinkering on some project he thought he could fix up or watching crime /police dramas on TV. Earl was a generous and hard-working man all of his life, willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. A fisherman for the first half of his working life and then mechanic/diesel mechanic/professional truck driver the last, he could always be found seeking out a bargain or saving some treasure from the dump or side of the road. His biggest passion later in life was spoiling his 5 grandchildren, Evan “Big Man”, Berkley “Berkie Man”, Jackson “Jack”, Wesley “Bear” and Mackenzie Grace. Earl leaves behind seven children, Cynthia (Jason) Pitts, Saltsprings and their children, Chris, Charles and Alex; Earl “Buddy” (Sally),Westville and their children, Mitchell, Tasha and Josie; April (Steven),Halifax; Rachel, Halifax; Dawn-Marie (Jerry), Hillsvale and their children, Jackson and Mackenzie Grace; and Melissa (Curtis) Cutler, Upper Kennetcook and their children, Evan, Berkley, and Wesley. He is also survived by his sister aka “Sis”, Dorothy (Cameron) MacLeod. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by brother Leslie and 6 siblings in infancy; and just recently, his wife Ada Irene on April 17, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 29, 2017 at 2pm at the East Gore Community Hall, Hwy 202, East Gore, NS. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J.
