Obituary of Huntley Robert McNutt
Huntley Robert McNutt of Salmon River passed away on May 15, 2017 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro in his 99th year. A son of Dimock and Jean (MacKenzie) McNutt, Huntley was born on August 8, 1918 in North River and spent his early years in Nuttby and the majority of his adult life in Salmon River and Valley. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Lois (MacAllister) McNutt; brothers Ellwood, Walter and Pressley, sisters Dorothy Shearer, Shirley Hatcher and infant sister Lillian McNutt; half-brothers Ronald, Chester, Burchill and Roger and half-sisters Vivian, Patricia and Ardith. He is survived by his stepson Brian MacAdoo and stepdaughter Judy Murray; grandchildren, Doug, Sheri, Keri, Heidi and Tyler; many great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and nieces. Huntley worked in the forest products business as a lumber grader at both MacCallum's Lumber and Sproule's Lumber from which he retired in 1983. He spent much of his free time during his working years and into his retirement designing and building many things from wood. Whether it was a garage, a family room or a fine piece of furniture, Huntley had a passion for doing things the right way. He would spend many hours planning a project and it would always come out just right. Huntley lived an active and independent life right up until the spring of this year; he lived in his own house and was still driving himself to several destinations around town. He would have still cleared the snow and mowed the lawn if his stepdaughter and neighbours had let him. Huntley was a private man who did not want a fuss made over him. He did, however, really enjoy two birthday parties hosted by Judy for his 95th and 98th birthdays, both of which were very well-attended by his entire family. His family was also there to support Huntley during his final hospital stay. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday May 18th at St. John's Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro, Rev Lori Ramsey officiating. Internment will be in the Blackmore Memorial Cemetery in Upper North River. Donations in memory of Huntley may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home Hwy 354 Kennetcook, NS. Please visit www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
