LAKE - Thelma Irene (Laffin), age 91, of Windsor, formerly of Summerville, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 in Haliburton Place, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with her daughter Judy at her bedside. Born in Moose Brook on September 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucy (McCulloch) Laffin. Thelma was a retired schoolteacher, having attended Normal College in Truro, and spent many summers furthering her education in Halifax. She began her teaching career in East Walton at the tender age of seventeen and ended it teaching "Special Ed." at Dr. Arthur Hines School, Summerville. She was a long-time member of the Leila Rebekah Lodge No. 59 and the Kempt United Baptist Church. Thelma was a hard-worker; when not teaching school, she could be found her in the garden, in the hayfield, or helping Brad with the winter's wood. She loved her family and helped one and all wherever and whenever she could, both financially and emotionally. A great Mum and Grandmum - she was loved! Thelma is survived by her daughters, Judy Patterson and Marlene (Owen) Hill; grandchildren, Pamela Patterson-Hill, Jeffrey (Heather) Patterson, David Purcell, Pooky Hill, Bradley Hill, and Patrick Hill; and great-grandchildren, Abby Hill, Adrienne Hill, Gabe Hill, Ethan Patterson, William Purcell, and Emma Hill, all of Summerville; sister, Clara Hines, East Noel; brother, Eric (Betty) Laffin, Ontario, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Bradley; brothers, Jehu, Marsten, and Mack; sister, Mary (Ron) Taylor; son-in-law, Laurie Patterson; brothers-in-law, Walt (Martha) Lake, Archie (Doris) Lake, Alworth Hines, and Pledmena, in infancy; and sisters-in-law, Anita "Neet" (Doug) Card and Marjorie Lake. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 9 at 2pm at Kempt United Baptist Church, Summerville, Pastor Betty Parker officiating, followed by a private family committal at Loyal Hill Cemetery, Summerville.
