Martin, Edward Gerald "Ed" - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Ed Martin, age 69, of Windsor, announce his passing on February 23, 2017 at home. Born in Halifax on March 2, 1947, he was the son of the late George & Marion Martin. Ed was a loving husband; father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a devoted "Grampy" to grandsons Ryan and Brayden, who were the apples of his eye, and his pride in them was evident to anyone he talked to. Ed travelled many roads in Nova Scotia attending Ryan's golf tournaments and hockey games. He enjoyed regular Skype sessions with Brayden, who loved showing Grampy his basketball and dance skills. A self-employed entrepreneur for most of his life, Ed owned and operated several successful businesses including Ed Martin Beverages, Mobile One Cellular, and Ed Martin Printing. He was proud to be a board member of the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society, and received a Volunteer Award for Hockey Heritage in 2015. Over the years, Ed was involved in the Windsor Rotary Club and Windsor Jaycees. He was a long-time member of the Avon Valley Golf and Country Club, and enjoyed numerous rounds of golf with grandson Ryan. Ed will be sadly missed by his family, his friends, and everyone who knew and loved him. Ed is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Diane (nee Allen); sons, Craig (Ronda), Falmouth; and Coby (Anna), Toronto; grandsons, Ryan and Brayden; sisters, Betty-Ann (Ian) Forrest, Toronto; and Charlotte (Fred) Lysak, Nashville; and brother George (Denise) Martin, Moncton. Ed's extended family includes brothers- and sisters-in-law as well as several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place; visitation will be held Monday, February 27 from 7-9pm with a memorial service at 2pm on Tuesday, February 28, both at DeMont Family Funeral Home, 419 Albert Street, Windsor; Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Reception to follow at Super 8 Hotel, 63 Cole Drive, Windsor. There will be a private interment at a later date.
