Obituary of Harold Gertsen

Gertsen, Harold Johannes, age 88, of Kempt Shore - It is with heavy hearts we announce Harold's passing on July 30, 2016 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with his loving family by his side. Born on July 26, 1928 in Denmark, Harold was the only son of the late Alfred and Gertrude (Gustafsson) Gertsen, and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Harold immigrated to Canada with his family in 1929, settling in Kempt Shore, N.S. A knowledgeable man and machinist by trade, he worked for IMP, Dartmouth and CKP, Hantsport for many years. Prior to that, he worked the family farm in Kempt Shore with his parents. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, fly-tying, and four-wheeling, to name a few. Harold will be deeply missed by his wife of 25 years, Blanche (MacPhee); nephews, Brian and Robert Prontack, Ontario; stepdaughter Jocelyn (Tim) Ryan, Eureka, Montana; stepson Sheldon Benedict, Vulcan, Alberta; stepdaughter-in-law Rose Harvey, Lower Sackville; stepgrandchildren, Ryan (Jessi), Evan, and Kayla Benedict and Sheldon (Susan) and Tanya Pennell; and stepgreat-grandchildren Lincoln and Parker Pennell. Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his sisters, Edla Clemmensen and Anna Prontack; nephew, Barry Prontack, and stepson, Scott Benedict. To all the doctors and nursing staff at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor; Dr. Cussen and staff at Hants Shore Community Health Centre; VON and Home Care - thanks so much for your care and compassion. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 2pm at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Summerville, Lois Brison-Brown officiating, with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Interment at a later date.
