Obituary of Lloyd Beckman

BECKMAN, Lloyd Franklyn - age 79, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in East Walton on June 20, 1936, he was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Sanford) Beckman. Lloyd moved to Fairview in 1945, and graduated from the Halifax Regional Vocational with a degree in carpentry. He worked in construction all his life, and was a member of the Nova Scotia Homebuilders Association and the R-2000 Program. Lloyd built many homes in Bedford, Halifax/Dartmouth and surrounding areas. He received the Nova Scotia Home Award for excellence in housing design, construction, and energy conservation in 1995 for his home in the R-2000 Showcase of Homes. He was most happy in his home workshop, building many beautiful items for family and friends. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Paulina (Reynolds) Beckman; son Dale (Cindy Hughes) Beckman, Bedford; daughter Darlene (Kivanc) Demren, Istanbul, Turkey; grandchildren, Tori Beckman and Mikah Beckman; former son-in-law, Jason Pettipas; brother-in-law, John (Penny Hazel) Reynolds; sisters-in-law, Jennie Brown, Maud (Willie) Beckman, Margaret Cochrane, Charlotte (Garf) Beckman, and Shirley Reynolds; and numerous cousins. Besides his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Marie in infancy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wallace and Pearl Reynolds; and brothers-in-law, Donald Reynolds, James Brown, and Ken Cochrane. Cremation has taken place, with visitation to be held on Saturday, April 30 from 6-8pm and a memorial service on Sunday, May 1 at 2pm, both at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, Bill Hale officiating. Private interment at Moose Brook Cemetery. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Minasville Hall.
