Obituary of Ellis Patterson

Patterson, Ellis Chipman - age 94, of Tenecape, passed away at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on November 27, 2015. Born in Tenecape on May 28, 1921, he was a son of the late Robbie and Minnie (Lingard) Patterson. Ellis served overseas as a member of the Canadian Provost Corps in WWII. He spent his working years in forestry, mining, and working for the Dept. of Transportation. A man of many talents, Ellis was renowned for his knowledge of local lore and history. He enjoyed crafting wooden handles for axes and other tools, and could always be heard whistling, even in his last days. Ellis also loved to sketch, especially sailing vessels and schooners. He was recently predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Frances (Sanford) Patterson, who passed away on November 18, 2015. Ellis is survived by his children, Diane Boylan, Kentville; John (Roberta), Meadow Lake, Sask.; Leigh (Bonny), East Walton; Harry (Donna), Minitonas, Man.; and Terry (Connie), Ste. Marie de Kent, N.B.; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ellis was predeceased by his brothers, John, Eugene, Max, Lloyd, Cliff, Carl, and Les; his sisters, Etta Jean and Alma, both in infancy, and Mae and Freda. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1 from 2-4pm at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook. A graveside committal service for Ellis and Frances will be held at Tenecape Cemetery on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 1pm, Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating.
