Obituary of Russell White
Please share a memory of Russell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
White, Russell Maxwell, age 86, of Kennetcook. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on August 17, 2015 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with his family by his side. Born on February 19, 1929 in North Noel Road, he was the son of the late Emerson and Mary Jane (Anthony) White. Russell started out his career as a mechanic but soon after entered the forestry industry. In 1962 he rented his first saw mill in Kennetcook from a local business man, Marsden Anthony. In 1966 he built his own lumber mill which is still operating today as Russell White Lumber Limited. It made him proud when his three sons joined the business. He was a long-time member of the Nova Scotia Forest Products Association and the Maritime Lumber Bureau. Russell had a passion for politics and stock car racing, travelling throughout the Maritimes sponsoring his son Bob as well as other race car drivers. His passion for this sport brought him to purchase Onslow Speedway, Onslow, NS and run it for several years. He was a kind and generous man, supporting local hockey, ball teams and any organization that came to his door. In the early 80s he brought cable to the surrounding communities, operating under Kennetcook Cable Vision Limited. Russell will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor (Gavin) White; daughter, Brenda (White) Ettinger; sons, Emerson (Jackie), Bob (Trinda), Brian (Cheryl), 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Inez Laffin of Noel. Russell was recently predeceased by daughter, Darlene (White) Singer; also predeceased by sisters, Hilda White, Rita Miller, Linda White; brothers, Melbourne, Stanley, Clair, Angus, Arnold, Leslie, Raymond, and 2 in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 7-9pm, with a memorial service on Monday August 24, 2015 at 2pm, both at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, Deacon Wilfred Boudreau officiating. No reception; private family interment in Kennetcook Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kennetcook Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, ph 1-902-362-2440 or please visit our website at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
