Obituary of Russell Weatherhead

Russell Bernard Weatherhead - age 75, of Rawdon Gold Mines, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2015 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor after a brief illness. Born in South Rawdon on July 31, 1939 to the late Clyde and Gertie (Bond) Weatherhead, Russell was the eldest of 11 children. From 1958-63 Russell worked for Municipal Paving and worked in the woods in the winter time. From 1963-1979 he worked for J. A. Meehan & Sons, delivering meat to Halifax/Dartmouth/Waverley. In 1979 he and his brother formed Weatherhead Trucking, which they operated until retirement. Russell was a 20-year volunteer with Rawdon District Volunteer Fire Department. Always the joker, Russell had a wealth of friends and loved to joke and tease his nieces, nephews, neighborhood kids and just about everyone. Russell is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen "Kaye" Weatherhead; his daughter, Sherri (Ronnie) Bond, Rawdon Gold Mines; his son, Carl, Halifax; his brother, Norman (Valerie), Rawdon Gold Mines; his sisters, Ellen (Richard) Mitchell, Delta, BC; Margie Hunter, Brookside, NS; Phyl (Ron) Hildenbrand, Calgary, AB; Judy (Rennie) White, Rawdon Gold Mines; Ruth (Ron) Power, Rawdon Gold Mines; Rae (Greg) Miller, Marmora, ON; Lynne (Victor) Harlow, Bridgewater, NS; and Donna (Steve) Christiansen, Dartmouth, NS; his grandchildren, his pride and joy, Christopher & Darcy Bond (Mandy Ettinger), Rawdon Gold Mines; and his special great-grandchildren, Brooke Bond White & Colby Brown. Russell will be missed by his buddy, Kujo. Besides his parents, Russell was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Ward; and brothers-in-law, Arthur Ward and Jack Hunter. Our most sincere gratitude to Dr. Cathryn Smith for her care for 30 years and specifically these last two weeks. Special thanks to the caring nurses at HCH, especially Michelle, Renee and Cathy for the loving care shown to all of us these few days while Russell was in hospital. Cremation has taken place, with visitation Friday, February 20, from 7-9pm at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook. A celebration of Russell's life will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 2 pm in Rawdon Hills United Church, Upper Rawdon, M. Dale Crawford officiating. Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them for refreshments, fellowship and time for remembrance at the Rawdon Gold Mines Community Hall. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
