Obituary of Beverly Francis

Francis, Beverly Dawn, age 61, of Upper Kennetcook, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2014, surrounded by her family. Born on May 5, 1953 in Liverpool, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Labrador) Francis. Beverly was a well-respected and proud Native woman, and an activist for Native peoples. A former member of the Zone II Board of Directors of the Native Council of Nova Scotia, Beverly was the recipient of several awards, including the Stephen Hamilton award. She worked at Tim Hortons in Truro, and at the daycare in Millbrook for 11 years. Beverly leaves behind her husband of 42 years, Samuel Underwood; her son, Craig Francis (Tracey Tanner); her daughter, Courtney Francis (Chris Robinson); her granddaughter (and pride and joy), Samantha; her best friend and caregiver and sister, Joanne Stewart (George) and sister Louise Tanner; and her brothers, John, Jimmy, Sam (Bev), and Robert (Sherilyn). Beverly will also be missed by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her brothers Frank and Joe, and her brother-in-law Wade Tanner. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by request. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J.
