Sanford, Shirley Iona, age 72, of Newport Station, formerly of Centre Burlington, passed away on December 19, 2014 in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Windsor on April 8, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Hilda (Sibbley) Sanford. Shirley was a hard-working individual who held a variety of jobs, including working at Keyes Fibres, delivering the Chronicle-Herald for over 30 years, and serving as Postmaster in Centre Burlington for over 35 years. She also owned and operated her own dairy bar. Shirley volunteered extensively in Centre Burlington with the church, community hall, and cemetery. She was an avid shopper, who played broomball, baseball, and bowled for many years. Shirley loved her family dearly, and each of her grandchildren shared a piece of her heart. As Shirley said, "Leave it on the ice", and she truly did. Shirley is survived by her fiancé, Richard Hawboldt; her daughters, Donna (Doug) Sanford and Crystal (Greg) Taylor, both of Centre Burlington; her son, Craig (Kelly), of Greenwood; her grandchildren, Justin (Emily), Renée (Ryan), Mallory (James), Chance, Ty, Nikola, Kirby (Holly), Kassi (James), Ivan, Jessica, Courtney, and Jasmine; Richard's children, Richard (Laurie), Gary, Derrick (Christa), Jeff (Angie), William "Billy" (Rose), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Hatchard; her sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Paul) Sanford and Debbie Sanford; many nieces and nephews; her dear friend Suzanne, and many close friends. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sisters, Rhoda Lowe and Millie Hatchard; and her brothers, Ralph, Eddie, J.R., and Harley. Cremation has taken place, with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 2pm at the Windsor United Church, Windsor, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating, with a committal service at the Centre Burlington Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Centre Burlington Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Centre Burlington Hall, Centre Burlington Cemetery, Summerville Fire Department, or the Palliative Care Unit at the Hants Community Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 215, Summerville, ph-1-902-633-2431; please visit our website at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
