SKELHORNE, Mary Amelia "UNA"
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Una Skelhorne, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2014 with her family by her side at her son's home in Minasville, Hants Co. Una was born in Skinners Pond, PEI on March 13, 1928, daughter of the late John Frank and Regina (Perry) Perry. Una was a wonderful, warm, giving person who was able to befriend everyone she met. Her home was always open to family, friends, and any stranger who stopped and needed directions which always ended with them staying for tea and biscuits…she was the hostess with the mostess! These direction seekers spanned from USA, Western Canada and Europe. She touched so many people's heart with her kind and gentle spirit. She was one fine guitar player and singer. Mom was the life of our kitchen parties and made the room come alive with her songs, especially "The French Song." She was known as "Nanna" to her 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great grandchild, the three Crowe Family Children and to all other children near and far that experienced her Love and Kindness. She was and always will be "One Special Lady." Una is survived by her four children, Dennis, Falmouth; Connie (Bruce) McKinnon, Dartmouth; Fred (Cindy) Burntcoat; Dwaine (Joanne), Minasville. Sisters, Elva Doucette, Arlene Gallant; Brother, Franklin Perry; Brother-in-Law, Ben Bernard all of Tignish, PEI; Sister-in-laws, Joan (Lloyd) Hazlett, Chelsea, and Lillian Skelhorne, Montreal. Una was predeceased by her Husband, Robert (Bob) Skelhorne; Daughter-in-Law, Hughena; Brothers, Johnny, Omar, Lloyd and Raymond; Sisters, Lena LeClaire and Marie Bernard. Una also had a wonderful and thoughtful extended family, Brian and Gloria, and the Residents of Bayview Manor, Noel, Hants Co.
Our thanks go out to caregivers, namely, Kerry, Jerlene and Brenda during Mom's last few weeks with us. Acknowledgement and thanks to all the home support staff and nurses of the Victorian Order of Nurses for their tireless dedication to Mom's care over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the IWK a place very dear to Mom's Heart.
