Obituary of Douglas Cox
Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
My dad and my hero, Douglas McCullough Cox, age 76, of Stirling Brook, near Maitland, Hants County, NS passed away peacefully on September 12, 2014 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born on July 3, 1938, he was the son of the late Colin D. Cox and Ena (McCulloch) Cox of Stirling Brook, NS. Doug was a hard-working man and worked in construction driving heavy machinery and big trucks for over 60 years. This job took him west to Manitoba for many years but upon his retirement he returned to Maitland, NS where he grew up. He was a good friend to many and was always fixing things for others or running them on errands. Doug would do anything for anybody if he thought he could help them. He was a very caring and loving man. Doug is survived by his only child and loving daughter Stella Elizabeth (Lisa) Nickerson, her husband Jimmy, and his granddaughter Mariah Nickerson, of whom he was so very proud, all of Bear Point, Shelburne County, N.S.; his older sister Nina (Cox) Geldart of Carberry, MB; three nephews, Carman, Vincent and Jason and one niece, Becky; his sister-in-law Sue (Perry) Fawcett, her husband Lloyd, and children Jeanny, Abbie, and Frankie, of MacGregor, MB., whom he was close with while he lived out west and visited often; numerous cousins and friends from Selma, Noel and Maitland; and the lovely people who shared his apartment building for the last 12 years. Doug is also survived by his wife Flora (Perry) Cox of Brandon, MB, who although separated for many years, still remained very close. He was predeceased by his younger brother Barry. I would like to thank the Palliative Care nurses at the hospital in Truro for the loving care shown to me and my Dad in the time we spent there. I would also like to thank Sheila, who visited my Dad every day while he was in the hospital, and everyone else who came to visit Dad at the hospital. I would also like to thank Claire and Dougie for everything they did for my dad, helping him over the years. Dad, you were definitely one of kind and you were my hero; you will never be forgotten, and there will never be another quite like you. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook, ph-1-902-362-2440 or please visit our web site at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book and send private condolences.
