Obituary of James Hayes

Hayes, James Melvin, age 76, of Windsor, formerly of Summerville, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2014 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII with his family at his side. Born in Yarmouth on March 31, 1938, Melvin was a son of the late Clifford and Marguerite (Rogers) Hayes. Melvin was a member of the Summerville & District Volunteer Fire Department with 45 years of active service. A painter by trade, he was always a community-minded man, and also a member of the Knights Motorcycle Club many years ago. Melvin is survived by his son, Paul (Charlotte) Hayes, of Bridgewater; his daughter, Patricia (Marty) Crossley, of Summerville; his grandchildren, Steven (Janna), of Brooks, Alberta, Jennifer (John), of Bridgewater, Kevin (Kathleen), of Halifax, and Justin, of Summerville; and several nieces and nephews. Melvin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marion "Sis" (Spencer) Hayes; his sister, Evelyn Lewis; and his brother, Ron Hayes. Cremation has taken place; a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2pm at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lower Burlington, Rev. Robert Cross officiating, followed by a private family committal at Loyal Hill Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Summerville Fire Hall.
