Obituary of Helena Sanford

Sanford, Helena Gertrude, age 71, of Centre Burlington, passed away on May 31, 2014 in the QEII (New Infirmary Site), Halifax. Born in Kempt Shore on February 6, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Fred MacLellan and Gladys Parker. Helena was a long-time member of the Burlington Women's Institute, and a member of the Burlington & District Activity Club for 16 years; she loved baking, singing, and going to bingo. Helena is survived by her daughters, Krista Rhodes (Gilbert Matheson), Tracey Sanford, Melody Sanford, and Dana (Tim) Purcell; her son, Colin Sanford; step-children Sandra Sanford, Carolyn (Mike) MacNeil, and Kevin (Barb) Sanford; grandchildren Sheryl, Tara, Jessica, Clayton, Candace, Nicole, and Samantha; many great-grandchildren; sister Juanita Sanford; brothers Royce MacLellan and Ronald Parker; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Helena was predeceased by her husband, Harold Sanford; grandson Christopher; brother Wendell; and grandchildren Michael and Mary-Ellen. Cremation has taken place; visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 7-9pm with a memorial service on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 2:00pm, both at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home in Summerville, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating, with a private interment at the Centre Burlington Cemetery.
