Obituary of Mabel Strong

Mabel Pauline Strong, age 62, of Scotch Village, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Hants Community Hospital. Born on May 19, 1951 in Wesleyville, NL, Mabel was the daughter of the late Robert and Rita (Picott) Stanford. Mabel was a dedicated member of the Newport Baptist Church, singing in the choir and serving as Sunday School superintendent. She was a valued life member of the Women's Missionary Society, Scotch Village. She enjoyed going to jam sessions, knitting, writing plays, making dolls and puppets, and fishing. Mabel is survived by her loving husband, Mostyn Strong; sons Michael (Jeanne), Kentville, and Steven, Ontario; daughters Krista (Jeff) Nelson, Falmouth and Marilyn (Jason) Cosman, New Brunswick; grandchildren Jonathan, Tayah, and Maleia Strong and Gavin and Leah Nelson; sisters Rita, Carrie, Marilyn, Nona, Roberta, Marion, and Etheleen; brothers Merle, Robert, Ronald, Charles and Gene; several nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by her father Robert Stanford, mother Rita (Picott) Stanford, father-in-law Moston Strong, mother-in-law Ida (Leopold) Strong, nephews Peter Strong and Virgil Stanford, and brother-in-law Don Fairn. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 2:00pm followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm, both at the Newport Baptist Church, Scotch Village, Rev. Bill Brackney officiating. Private family interment at the Century Cemetery, Scotch Village. Donations in Mabel's memory may be made to the Newport Baptist Church, Scotch Village c/o Andrea Parker, RR1 Newport, B0N2A0.
