Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patterson, Laurie Burton, 64, Summerville - It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Laurie Patterson announce his passing, surrounded by family, on Friday, March 28, 2014 in Hants Community Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Laurie was born in East Walton, NS on June 28, 1949 to the late Leslie and Hazel (McLellan) Patterson. He was an avid outdoorsman in earlier years and seemed to have a natural ability and knowledge of nature and the woods. He loved boating and fishing in the Avon River. In later years he enjoyed socializing in his meat shop. Laurie worked at many jobs, a lot of them in road construction, retiring from Dexter Construction in 2012. He worked all over NS and made friends everywhere he went. He has left his family with volumes of beautiful memories. Laurie was a gifted storyteller; he loved to read and listen to music. He expressed his love for his family freely and no one left him without a hug, a kiss and an "I love you." He loved Judy and knew how lucky he was to have her as his wife. Laurie was very proud of his children and loved having them close to home, but the lights in his life were his grandchildren. He adored them and was most happy watching them play and discover the wonders of the world. He was a phenomenal Grandpa. Laurie is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Judy (Lake) Patterson, of Summerville; daughter Pam, of Upper Burlington; son Jeff (Heather), of Summerville; grandchildren Abby, Adrienne, Gabe, and Ethan; son-in-law Curtis Hill, brother Blair (Marilyn) McLellan; sisters Dorothy (Wayne) Mahaney, Debby (Russell) McLellan and Denise Rudolph (Reed Allen); brother-in-law Stephen Rudolph; mother-in-law Thelma Lake; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and father-in-law Bradley Lake. Visitation will be held at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home in Summerville on Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 from 6-9pm with a memorial service at Kempt United Baptist Church, Summerville on Wednesday, April 2nd at 2:00pm; family flowers only.
